When at war, Soldiers carry individualized comfort items, like a baby would carry when going their mothers for the runner time, which helps them to cope with missing their families back home and the realism of war.



Internally, First Lieutenant Cross carried letters from a miss named Martha, a junior at Mount Sebastian College in unfermented Jersey. They were not love letters, but LT Cross was hoping, so he kept them folded in plastic at the bottom of his back pack (P 1). LT Cross had this love for Martha that just consumed all of his time, and left his platoon to lead themselves the majority of the time.
