2012: The New 1984
Big Brother is watching you. In George Orwells futuristic novel 1984, Big Brother controls the minds of his people, forcing them to weigh state of war is peace, freedom is slavery, and ignorance is strength. Since the signing of the Declaration of the license in 1776, citizens of the United States clear comforted themselves with the knowledge that they have certain rights and privileges that the inhabitants of Oceania never experienced. Despite the laws that protect Americans rights, striking parallels are developing between Orwells assumed Oceania and present day America as society evolves. The government, media, and streetwise technologies are increasingly violating societys screen. While our privacy is being compromised, our intellect is gradually shrinking through the devaluing of the media. sort of of following politics or humankind- events, citizens are becoming more than engrossed in pointless reality television, much resembling the aim of Newspeak. In addition, the United States has been in war for 215 of the 236 days we have been a nation, much like the perpetual war of Oceania.
Regardless of being written more than sixty long time ago, 1984 is still relevant to the events of modern times because of the decrease in privacy, lack of intellectual thought, and reliance on war.
