Jamaica is an island in the Caribbean Sea, south of Cuba. The capital is Kingston, dictated on the southeastern part of the country. Three of its largest cities are Kingston, Spanish Town, and Portmore. The population of Kingston is 937,700 people. 145,018 people live in Spanish Town. Portmore, population 102,861, is the third largest city. By the looks of it, Jamaica is a compact state. It is a baseborn, round like state.

Christopher capital of Ohio the island in 1494. The Spanish settled it early in the sixteenth century. The native Indians, who had inhabited Jamaica for years, were slowly killed off and replaced by slaves from Africa. England took need of the island in 1655 and started a plantation economy based on sugar, cocoa, and coffee. The abolition of slavery in 1834 freed over 250,000 slaves, many of whom became small farmers. Jamaica slowly got increasing independence from Britain. In 1958, it joined other British Caribbean colonies in forming the Federation of the West Indies. In 1962, Jamaica gained teeming independence when it withdrew from the Federation.

Jamaicas current governmental development is a democracy. In the past it has seen its share of uncontrollable acts. Gangs have influenced the situation also. They have brought in drugs, crime, violence, etc… Currently they ingroup levels have dropped since then. This has brought further peace and calm.
